Slow
Cooker Usage on the Rise
According to the 2008Snapshot on Slow
Cooker Ownership and Usage, slow cookers are
not gathering dust in HomeTrend Influential households.
Eight-four percent of the members of Riedel Marketing
Group’s proprietary panel of HomeTrend Influentials
(HIPsters) own a slow cooker. Almost one t hird of
these HIPsters are using their slow cooker more often
than they did a year or two ago.
Since HIPsters are the bellwether for the mainstream
population, the fact that so many of them are using
their slow cookers more often than they did a year
ago indicates that slow cooker usage is or will soon
be on the increase among the mainstream U.S. population … which
bodes well for sales of slow cookers and companion
products such as slow cooker cookbooks and pre-prepared
food products that are formulated specifically for
use in slow cookers.

Consumers Don’t Just
Do Online Research For Expensive or Complex Purchases
A new study found that shoppers are not just doing
online research on complex purchases like digital cameras
or expensive purchases like cars. Shoppers are even
doing Internet research on routine consumer packaged
goods decisions. According to Media Post’s Marketing
Daily, the study, which was conducted by Prospectiv,
a Woburn, Mass.-based lead-generation company, revealed
that 70% of survey respondents had researched brands
before buying them at the grocery store. Typically,
these consumers went online looking for information
or savings.
